Qantas is a troubled airline. Once a Qantas aircraft technician even told me that Singapore Airlines have a far superior maintenance schedule for their aircraft.
This person claims that he tells his family to avoid flying on Qantas ( but flies on it himself since he gets free flights)
These days Han airlines ( SIA, Cathay,China Eastern) and Middle Eastern airlines (Emirates,Qatar) are far better than Western Airlines ( American, British, Lufthansa, KLM,Qantas).
Please don’t post off-topic hearsay like this here. This article isn’t about maintenance, it’s about a manufacturing fault and the incredible work by the pilots to avert a colossal aviation disaster. Qantas continues to have an unblemished record of safety. Running airlines cost-effectively is a continually growing challenge. There is always a place for scrutiny of airlines’ maintenance and safety practices, but introducing it out of context and based entirely on an unverifiable comment from an unidentified individual is not a helpful contribution to this discussion.
The absolutely insane thing about it is not even the accident itself (most airlines have had accidents) but the way it is handled in their equivalent of FAA and the government. From how they delayed issuing the visas for Boeing and other representatives to how they STILL have not released a report.
great example of why I would avoid any PRC airline if I can help it.
(Presumably one reason they don't want to release the report is because it would lead many others to do the same and they want to protect their airline profits, but of course it ensures that the problem will not be fixed the longer they delay it)
Interesting thing to ponder: How much time, money, energy (et al) is being used in the (now) ever-escalating war between generating and detecting AI content?
This goes for HR, education, code review, on and on.
Nah, that is Hinduism as seen through the Western lens.
"Sanatana" in Sanatana Dharma means Eternal. The 4 cyclic yugas are well documented in every Sanskrit literature. We are currently in year 5127 of Kali Yug i.e. it started in 3102 BC with the departure of Bhagavan Krishna from earth after Kurukshetra war, which marked the end of previous yuga (Dwapara).
Kali Yug lasts 432,000 years. After which the next cycle begins.
Eventually after Brahma's lifetime is over, Pralaya occurs. Then the universe goes quiet for a long time, until Lord creates again. And this cycle of creation and destruction goes on forever.
There are lots of amazing Mac only apps, but I'm not sure simply running them on Linux would be worth it. Without the cohesiveness of the UI as a whole you'd be losing a lot.
For me it’s mostly media apps - Fireworks CS 6, Reason 10, maybe some version of Garage Band. There’s alternatives but these apps hit a sweet spot that I could camp out on for decades if the tech treadmill didn’t like to make software an exercise in seeing shifting shapes in the clouds.
> Is there some really amazing Mac only software that would justify the effort ?
As others said, the killer app is XCode. Even if you can technically get it to run, you'll still need the full support and test flows of a native solution, so you might as well follow the proper path and use a Mac.
I can get Visual Studio to run in Parallels today. I still test with a real Windows machine.
Not a nice disease to get. Ranks up there with glioblastoma multiforme, advanced oesophageal cancer and advanced duodenal cancer.
I am aggressive and investigate aggressively to detect pancreatic cancer early. One even had a Whipple procedure (pancreaticoduodenectomy ), since I detected it so early.
Despite that, the longest anyone I diagnosed has lived has only been 8 months.
I would estimate that 90% of software developers I have spoken to lack basic statistical understanding. Basic concepts like kurtosis, skewness, moments, the core Greeks all seem to be alien concepts to most.
You can probably lead a decent life without understanding kurtosis and skewness. You probably can’t if you don’t understand when a normal distribution applies.
